Spinning for the Soul Retreat—2024 Spinning Classes

Color Theory for Spinners

In this class you’ll develop an intimate working knowledge of the color wheel by creating your own from primary-colored fiber, using hand cards or combs. You’ll explore color blending by creating tints, tones, and shades, as well as learning techniques to intensify or quiet colors. And you’ll learn how to use color harmonies to create rich, complex colors that will give your future projects depth and interest.

The Color Management Intensive

In this class you’ll use what you’ve learned in Color Theory For Spinners to analyze the colors in a multicolored braid and predict how they will interact with one another in various yarn structures. By the end of the class you’ll thoroughly understand how singles diameter, ply structure, fiber preparation choices, and pre-drafting play a role in color management. You’ll also learn and have the opportunity to practice a wide variety of techniques to manage color by spinning the same colorway multiple ways.
